AI Summary (the “Extension”, “we”, “our”, “us”) is a free Chrome/Edge browser extension that lets you select any element on a web page and receive an AI‑generated summary rendered in Markdown. The Extension runs entirely in your browser; no user data is sent to our servers except what is required to call the AI provider (OpenAI) on your behalf.
| Category | Description | Where it is stored | Reason for collection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Configuration data (API mode, API key, proxy URL, model, temperature, etc.) | All settings you enter in the Options page. | Chrome Sync storage (encrypted and synced to your Google account). | To enable the Extension to call the AI service with the parameters you chose. |
| Selected element text | Text extracted from the page element you click. | In‑memory only while a request is in progress; never persisted to disk. | To send it to the AI service for summarisation. |
AI response (summary & optional <thinking> block) | The markdown text returned from the AI service. | In‑memory only; displayed in the Extension UI. | To show you the generated summary. |
| Usage telemetry (optional) | If you enable “Send anonymous usage stats” (default off) we collect a hashed extension‑ID and a count of summarisation requests. | Chrome Local storage (not synced). | To help us understand adoption and improve the Extension. |
| Error reports (when you click “Report a problem”) | The error message and a short stack trace. | Sent to our support email (via mailto: link). | To diagnose bugs. |
We do NOT collect: personally identifiable information (name, email, IP address), browsing history, cookies, or any data from other pages that you do not explicitly select.
