1. Introduction

AI Summary (the “Extension”, “we”, “our”, “us”) is a free Chrome/Edge browser extension that lets you select any element on a web page and receive an AI‑generated summary rendered in Markdown. The Extension runs entirely in your browser; no user data is sent to our servers except what is required to call the AI provider (OpenAI) on your behalf.

2. What Data We Collect

We do NOT collect: personally identifiable information (name, email, IP address), browsing history, cookies, or any data from other pages that you do not explicitly select.

3. How We Use Your Data

1. Configuration data – Used locally to configure how the Extension calls the AI provider.
2. Selected element text – Sent to the AI endpoint (OpenAI, your proxy, or GM Bridge) to generate a summary.
3. AI response – Rendered in the UI for you; never stored beyond the current session.
4. Telemetry (if enabled) – Aggregated, anonymised statistics are used to improve performance and feature planning.
5. Error reports – Used solely for debugging; no personal data is included.

4. Who We Share Your Data With

5. Data Security

• All data transmitted to the AI provider is sent over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+).
• Configuration data stored in Chrome Sync is encrypted at rest by Google.
• In‑memory data is cleared when the Extension UI is closed or the browser tab is refreshed.
• Telemetry, if enabled, is sent as a JSON payload with a randomly generated identifier that is hashed with SHA‑256 and cannot be reverse‑engineered to identify an individual user.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), you have the following rights:

7. Retention

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in law, technology, or our practices.

• Notice of change – A clear notice will be displayed the first time you open the Extension after an update, and the “Effective date” above will be revised.
• Continued use – If you continue to use the Extension after the notice, you accept the new policy.

How to add this policy to the Chrome Web Store

1. Save the above markdown (or HTML) as privacy_policy.html inside your extension package (or host it on a public URL).
2. In the Chrome Web Store developer dashboard, open Listing details → Privacy policy and paste the URL (e.g., https://yourdomain.com/privacy_policy.html).
3. Submit the update; the policy will be displayed on the store page and linked from the “Privacy policy” field.
